Day 45 Volcano land at Chilean Border

We woke up at 4:30 a.m. and left for our 3rd tour day at 5:15, in order to see the sunrise over the volcano land. Our first stop was the Geysers at 4900m. Jumping over the holes with warm gas coming out of them is a really funny experience!

The landscape is very strange, kind of scary... It stinks because of the sulfur and you see the mud boiling. Jeroun said it's the way he imagines hell!

Next stop was the thermal waters at 4500m. After a long bad at 38C, our breakfast waited for us on the jeep.

Driving on sandy, dessertic roads is very scary, but as you can see Jesus was always watching over us ...

The last stop was Laguna Verde, next to the Chilean border. This is a stony lagoon with no mud under the surface, that is why you don´t see any animals around. The reflection of the mountains over the water seems like a mirror of the landscape.

This was our last jourey with the group because they were going back to Uyuni and we were going to cross the border to San Pedro de Atacama in Chile.

At the border, you can see the welcome signs of Bolivia and Chile. As always, kids are always around, mostly selling things. Their faces are atonishing!

Finally we said good-bye to our group and crossed the border without major inconvenients. We had to wait 1 hour for the connection bus to San Pedro de Atacama, just 45 Km from the border.

The landscape changes immediately from sandy to paved roads, very well sign posted. Even emergency roads are available every 1Km, because the road descends from 4400 to 2400m.

We had to wait almost one hour to clear immigrations and customs. Fortunally we were protected from the sun by this nice pergola!
