But we continue over the Bolivian Border to the village of Copacabana. In spite of the altitude of 3800m, we have no problem, thanks to the past 3 weeks we spent over 2500m.
We allow ourselves a bit of luxiry, with the matrimonial suite with lake view, for an impressive 12$!
To enjoy fully Lake Titicaca, we decided to go and spend our second night on “la Isla del Sol”. According to the mythology, this is where the first Inca appeared from the water.
It`s a nice 1 and a half hour boat tour to the island.
The Island is covered with potato plantations, which are blossoming at this time of the year, so it is very nice to walk around the island. In spite of the altitude of 4000m, the sun is burning hot, and our poor sun cream doesn’t seem to be helping… The view of the surrounding Andes is amazing!
Although the place has become quite touristy, the people have maintained their way of life.
From our simple hotel room (4 dollars for the night), we had the most amazing view on 6000m snowy peaks with the rising sun. Here are some of the pix at 6.30am.
Before heading back to Copacabana, the peaks are completely free of clouds and the view is fantastic!
People here really know what they have inside, just click on the picture you will see!
We then started our journey to our next step La Paz. We have to cross the lake at one point, the bus goes on a dodgy wooden boat, fortunately we go on a separate boat.
The drive is really impressive and we get closer to the snowy peaks we saw the same morning from the distance. We finally reach the city of La Paz and we have to go down from 4000m to 3600m.
Our first view of La Paz
