After a 30 minutes walk we arrived to the upper site. The first thing that appeared us was the huge terraces, which in this case, were kind of gardes for the Inca (The king of the Incas). But in most of the cases the terraces served to place the crops.
Choquequirao is supposed to be the place where the last Incas hide from the Spaniards, that is why the acces to the site is so difficult, through narrow paths in zigzag up and down the montains. It's almost always surrounded by thick clouds which adds a lot to the mistery of the place.
On the faces of some of the terraces you can see lamas made of white stone, that were supposed to look as real animals from far away, in order to trick the enemy.
After at least 3 hours of walking up and down the ruins, we were exhausted. David's legs were completely covered by mosquito bites! The next day we went to visit the rest of the site, which is 4 or 5 Km. under the upper one. Only part of the site (30%) is cleaned from the vegetation, and archeologists are still working on it.
The terraces are perfectly adapted to the slopes and they are conected by water channels that irrigated the crops. The landscape is amazing!
These terraces were discovered only 2 years ago, so there is not a lot of people up there. On this day, there was nobody but us!
The same day, we started our hike back to Cachora.
6 to 8 hours walk per day...Finally we reached Cachora but we were almost dead!Caro

Bons baisers
A bientôt
