Ciudad del Este is the first town we arrive to in Paraguay, it is famous for cheap electronic goods imported illegaly so it's a huge shoping centre for Brazilian and Argentines. This is the view on the city as seen from the Brazilian border, and then the main shoping street.
Appart from Ciudad del Este, Paraguay has got to be the least visited country in South America which makes it very interesting to travel to, because people dont have pre-judices against tourists. We took a comfortable bus to Asunción, 5 hours. Temperature outside 36C, temperature inside 17C!!!
Every now and then, the bus stops and some women with mini skirts come on the bus to sell small manioc breads or water and other drinks, so even if you didn´t bring anything to eat, you´re sure you´ll be fine.
We arrived in Asunción in the late afternoon, and enjoyed the view of the government palace in a bar.
As always, we mix some local beer with Sprite, even if people look at us and say "what are you doing to the beer?!" Here the beer comes in its own thermo bottle.
We were surprised to find out that most people here speak Guaraní, an indigenous language, and Spanish just as well. In Paraguay, there are also lots of decendants from German immigrants, so a lot of people are very blond and the thrid language in the country is Platt Deutsch (low german).
We came accross a wierd German "rolling hotel", with number plates from Munich!
Actually we have met some Europeans that bring their own car to travel through Southamerica, but a hotel like this is really unique!
Appart from a few colonial buildings, Asunción has not much, and some poorer districts are just next to the center, but evenso the place is quite safe.
